Role in adult concussion care
Working in a larger rural centre, my role in concussion care is often that of a consultant for patients initially seen by physicians in an emergency or urgent care setting. The surrounding communities consist of a great deal of industrial manufacturing and farming, as well as an abundance of sport and recreational activity. I provided timely follow up with patients who sustain concussion in these settings and ensure that they are recovering well. If their symptoms are prolonged, I can make informed referrals to other members of the allied health care team to help guide them towards an expeditious recovery. It has been a pleasure to be part of this team that works to ensure that people receive the highest level of appropriate care for management of concussion.
